Gone Fishing

When I first laid eyes on the Gone Fishing suite in the 2023/24 Annual Catalogue, I immediately thought of my mom. She is an amazing fisherwoman and I knew I had to have it to make cards for her. My nephew has also learned the tricks of the trade from my mom and spends every summer evening at Grammy's by the water with a pole in hand. There's even a friendly competition to see who can land the biggest fish each summer. I had great fun playing with this amazing suite and hope you enjoy these ideas to inspire your own creativity...

There is so much amazing detail in this suite...especially the dies! I had such fun creating different types of fishing tackle, not only to put in the die-cut tackle box, but also for my fishing vest. The last three cards pictured above are ones I make in my Facebook Live...you can check it out below. All of the measurements for each project are included in the video description on YouTube for easy, one-stop inspiration. Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by this week...happy stamping!

Peaceful Deer and a Blog Hop

Happy Friday! TGIF! I never used to be one to look forward to the weekend...I really love my teaching job, but the past two years of pandemic teaching has worn this ol' gal out! I am SO ready for some downtime this weekend.

Today is the 15th of the month, which means it is time for our monthly Stamping Symphony Blog Hop. Our theme this month is Celebrations, check out my entry...

I wanted to show just how versatile the Peaceful Deer stamp set is...it's not just for Christmas! I made this masculine card to celebrate a birthday or other occasion. I stamped and fussy-cut the deer after colouring it using the Soft Suede Stampin' Blends. Not wanting to fussy-cut the antlers, I stamped them on the white circle in the background (I was going for the looking of a rising full moon) and then strategically placed my deer so that the stamped antlers were positioned correctly.

My background panel is a piece of Kraft card stock, embossing using the Evergreen Forest 3D Embossing folder. I added a hint of Mossy Meadow ink to the raised image using a blending brush.

The row of trees is punched from Mossy Meadow card stock using the Evergreen Border punch. I used a strip of Beauty of the Earth Designer Paper to ground my design...I love the variations in colour...it looks like shadows from the trees and deer! The sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso card stock using one of the stamps from the Peaceful Deer set.

On the inside of the Early Espresso card base I added a Basic White panel on which I stamped some of the tree images from the stamp set in Mossy Meadow ink. I omitted a sentiment so that I could use this card for any occasion and add an appropriate sentiment later.

Handsomely Suited For Dad

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are having a good week so far. Here we are well into our third lockdown of the pandemic and I have to admit, it is getting OLD. I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever be able to gather to stamp again.

As I plan for the launch of the new catalogue, I am once again looking at virtual ways to connect and create together. If you are in Canada, I would invite you to check out my Virtual Catalogue Launch and Bingo event...it will be TONS of fun. You can read all about the details on my Upcoming Events tab in the right sidebar.

I am also launching a new Cross-border Crafters online class featuring, coincidentally enough, the Handsomely Suited Bundle...

Again, you can read all about the details on my Events page.

Now for today's project. I needed a Father's Day card for my son to give his dad that included a gift card holder (he's getting an Amazon gift card because he's addicted!), so I designed this...

fathers day diy gift card holder

My hubby is a golf shirt kinda guy...definitely NOT a suit-and-tie one, so I had to get a bit creative with the Suit and Tie dies. I have to say, I am pleased with the result! I used some of the Well Suited Designer Paper (he actually has a golf shirt in almost this exact print!) and then cut a small V at the top using the dies. Then I added a collar, buttons, placket and pocket in Smokey Slate. The sentiment is stamped in Basic Grey ink, punched withe the 1-1/2" circle punch and then layered on a Smokey Slate Tailored Tag label.

The best part is that there is a pocket in behind to hold a gift card...it slides in and out easily. The second-best part is that this is an easel card, so the open card stands on a desk, giving easy access to the gift card like this...

On the inside I added a Stitched Nested Label (SO going to miss those dies when they retire!) and stamped another sentiment from the Handsomely Suited stamp set. The label is popped up with dimensionals to catch the easel and keep it standing.

I'll be demonstrating this card and two others using this bundle in today's Live @ Five video at 5 pm ET over on my Facebook business page. I hope you'll join me live, but if you miss me you can always catch the replay on my YouTube channel shortly afterwards. As always, I will include all of the measurements for all three projects in the video description.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a safe and healthy week!
