Apple of my Eye

Happy Friday! SO glad the weekend is here! Just when I think things can't get any crazier, they somehow do. Ready for a break in the action and maybe *gasp* a day off!

Today I have a quick and easy card I made using the Apple of My Eye stamp set...

I have to say that this set has really grown on me over the life of the Occasions catalogue...just in time for it to retire! It figures!! To create this card I began with a piece of Whisper White card stock on which I stamped the apple image from the Apple of my Eye set in Real Red ink several times along the right side. I added the stem in Crumb Cake, the leaf image in Wild Wasabi and the seeds in Basic Black and then ran the stamped panel through the Big Shot using the Perfect Polka Dots TIEF. (Still mourning the retirement of this one!). I matted the embossed panel on a piece of Basic Black card stock and then mounted it on a Real Red card base.

I stamped the apple image again on a scrap of Whisper White card stock, stamped the sentiment over top in Basic Black and then fussy cut it out. I added a fussy cut leaf and adhered it to the card with dimensionals. The only embellishment on this simple card is some Basic Black baker's twine.

On the inside I stamped the apple and stem again, this time stamping off before stamping on the Whisper White card stock panel. I added another sentiment from the Apple of my Eye set in Basic Black ink.

This is  super quick and easy card to whip up and send to someone special. Who do you know that could use a little pick-me-up today? Take 10 minutes and send them a smile via snail-mail. I guarantee they will love it!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Celebrate You

Happy Wednesday...half-way through the week, which means it is downhill to the weekend...woohoo!!

Today I have a card I designed a while back for a class I did featuring the Birthday Bouquet Suite from the Occasions Catalogue. I have to say, this is still one of my favourite product suites of all time...so pretty!

Birthday card featuring the Birthday Blooms stamp set.
At this class I not only wanted to showcase the fabulous products in this suite, but I also wanted to teach my guests how to watercolour using blender pens. I must have done a pretty good job, because their projects looked UH-MAZING and no two were exactly alike. We began by heat embossing the floral image from the Birthday Bouquet stamp set in white on watercolour paper. Then using blender pens we coloured the image using Watermelon Wonder, Crushed Curry and Mint Macaron ink. To add colour to the background, we did a wash with an aquapainter and Soft Sky ink. Heat embossing the image before colouring makes it much easier for beginners, as the embossing resists the ink and helps keep it inside the lines. :)

The watercoloured panel is mounted on a piece of Birthday Bouquet DSP and then on a Watermelon Wonder card base. The sentiment, which is from the Suite Sayings stamp set, is heat embossed in gold and then die-cut using the Lots of Labels Framelits. I highlighted the label with a gold metallic foil doily, as bit of Watermelon Wonder lace trim and some pearls from the Love Blossoms Embellishment Kit. The final touch was a few tiny pearls scattered across the front panel.

On the inside I added a Whisper White panel on which I stamped the heart border from the Birthday Blooms set in Mint Macaron ink and the sentiment in Watermelon Wonder ink.

This card was certainly a hit with my class participants, as I'm sure it will be to anyone who receives it to honour their special day.

Silhouette Sympathy for Sunday Stamps

Happy Sunday! I hope you are having a good weekend. Mine has been spent in my studio holding my Occasions Card Buffet and then doing some spring cleaning, pulling retiring products from my stash in preparation for the release of the new Annual Catalogue. Have you checked out the retiring list yet? If not, click the image in the right side-bar to see what's going away to make room for all the fabulous NEW products!
Today marks the start of a new colour challenge over at Sunday Stamps. Check out this gorgeous inspiration photo:

I have to admit, this one stumped me for a bit. These are not colours I tend to use very often, so I pulled out my sponges and started blending. I'm really happy with the way my project turned out...

Sympathy card featuring the Serene Silhouettes and World of Dreams stamp sets with sentiment from Rose Wonder.

I began with a piece of Whisper White card stock. I pulled out my retired Crisp Cantaloupe ink pad, which is a perfect match for the coral shade in the inspiration photo. I sponged the Crisp Cantaloupe, then Lost Lagoon (how sad are you going to be to see THAT one go??), Wisteria Wonder, and finally Elegant Eggplant. To pull all of the shades together, I then sponged over the entire panel again with the Crisp Cantaloupe. I decided I wanted to soften the colours even more so I spritzed the sponged panel with some Stampin' Mist (yep, the stamp cleaner) which acts almost like bleach and gives a soft, mottled look.

I dried the panel with my heat tool and then added some gold spatters using the Gorgeous Grunge set and (retired) gold metallic Encore ink. I then stamped images from Serene Silhouettes and World of Dreams (both of which are on the retiring products list) in Basic Black ink. I layered the panel on some gold foil card stock and then on Basic Black card stock. I added some Basic Black striped satin ribbon (also retiring!) before adhering the panel to a Sahara Sand card base. I stamped the sentiment from the Rose Wonder set in Basic Black ink below the stamped panel.

On the inside I added a Whisper White panel on which I stamped the sentiment from the Rose Wonder set and another of the floral images from Serene Silhouettes in Basic Black ink.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team member's blogs to see their beautiful takes on the colour challenge. Then give this one a go...it may just stretch your creativity like it did mine!
