Card in A Box for the Twist

Happy Saturday!  I know those of you living in the US are celebraing Memorial Day this weekend, so happy Memorial Day...I hope the weather there is as perfect as it is here!
It's time for a new challenge over at The Technique Twist again and this time we're all about the oh-so-trendy Card-in-a-Box!  For my sample project I decided to try a horizontally-oriented one...just to...ahem...step "outside the box"..heehee :)
Check it out:

Birthday Card in A Box featuring the Sketched Birthday and Sassy Salutations stamp sets.
I decided to pull out some favourite retiring products: the out-going In-colours and Birthday Basics DSP.  I made the card base out of Gumball Green card stock.  In case you want to try re-creating this one, here is a great cutting and scoring guide from Australian demonstrator  Debbie Henderson:

Debbie's Designs

I added one strip on the inside of the box to adhere my flag posts to.  I cut it 1" wide by 4-3/8" long and scored each end at 1/8".  You can see it in this side-view photo.

The little banners are cut with the smallest die in the Bitty Banners Framelits set from several patterns of DSP in the Birthday Basics pack, as well as Raspberry Ripple, Bermuda Bay and Summer Starfruit card stock.  I used toothpicks for the flagposts and white baker's twine to string them on.  The balloon image is from the Sketched Birthday set and is coloured with Bermuda Bay and Pool Party Stampin' Write Markers.  I added a few rhinestones I coloured with the darkest of the Daffodil Delight Blendabilities set.

On the back panel I stamped the balloon and party hat from the Sketched Birthday set and again coloured them with my Stampin' Write markers.

If you haven't tried making a Card in a Box yet you really should give it a go...they're such fun!  Then be sure to share your creation with us over at The Technique Twist!  Have a wonderful weekend!!

More Saleabration fun

Happy Friday everyone!  I hope you've had a good week.  Mine hasn't been much fun...my sinus infection has returned and I'm feeling crummy.  I've not been able to take time off because we are into exams at school and my students are doing performance exams...which only I can grade!  Hence my silence in blogland lately.  Today I'm back with a project I designed using more fun Sale-a-bration freebies:

Birthday card featuring the Sketched Birthday stamp set and featuring the Sweet Sorbet DSP and Accessory Pack.
This was one of the projects at my All About Birthdays card buffet last weekend...it was a hit!  I ran out of kits for this one!

Here's a quick rundown of how to put this one together:

  • I stamped each of the images in Sahara Sand ink and then punched them out using the Postage Stamp punch
  • The size of the coloured squares is 1-3/8".
  • The card base is Sahara Sand card stock and is embossed using the Decorative Dots TIEF - get it FREE during Sale-a-bration
  • The DSP is from the Sweet Sorbet pack...also free during Sale-a-bration
  • The scalloped white border is cut using the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die
  • The twine (love this stuff!) is from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory pack - also FREE during Sale-a-bration
  • The sentiment banner is stamped in Sahara Sand ink and then die cut using the Bitty Banners Framelits.

For the inside of the card I stamped the balloon image three times, once each using Pool Party, Crisp Cantaloupe and Pistachio Pudding inks.  Once again the banner is stamped in Sahara Sand and die cut using the Bitty Banners Framelits.

Now, I'm sure some of you are wondering about who won my SAB giveaway from Tuesday.  Well, the lucky winner is....
Karen D who left this comment:
Hi Leena! It's hard to choose just one favorite as they are all great! But if I had to choose one, I would say the Sweet Sorbet DSP. I love all the designs! Thanks for the chance to win!

Karen, I need to you contact me via email (just click the "Email Me" button in the right sidebar) so that I can arrange to send you your pack of Sweet Sorbet DSP!  Congratulations...and happy Sale-a-bration!!

Have a great weekend everyone...be sure to check in tomorrow.  I'll have a new challenge project from The Technique Twist for you.  I think you'll like it ;)

Another SAB Sneak Peek

Happy Spring!  Yes, I know...the calendar says January 3rd and the wind chill today is -20C here, but the weather in my stamp corner just got a whole bunch warmer as the new Occasions Catalogue is now live!!  So many fabulous new products...I totally want all of it!  I have to pace myself...still waiting for the Christmas bills to come in!  If you haven't already seen a copy you can view the pdf version online by clicking the image below or head over to my online store to browse (and place your order) ;)

Click the catalogue to view

Now if you missed ordering your favourite products from the Holiday Catalogue, don't dispair...they may just still be available!  A selection of products are being carried over and are still available for order.  Click here to view the complete list of products available through June 1st, 2014.

Now on to some stamping!  Today I have another birthday card I made for my upcoming Buffet.  This time I used even more fantastic product from the upcoming Sale-a-bration brochure...

Birthday card featuring the Sketched Birthday stamp set (130426).
I just love the colours in the Sweet Sorbet DSP pack!  The colours included are Crisp Cantaloupe, Pool Party, Pistachio Pudding, Sahara Sand, and Summer Starfruit, along with neutrals Basic Black and Whisper White.

To add texture to the background I used the new Decorative Dots TIEF.  I love that the dots in this pattern are just a little bit bigger than my beloved Perfect Polka Dots TIEF...a nice way to switch it up a bit.  The twine is from the Sweet Sorbet Accessory Pack, which includes 10 yards each of Pool Party, Crisp Cantaloupe and Summer Starfruit twine as well as a sheet of 58 pieces of printed self-adhesive cork.  Can't wait to use that stuff on a project...stay tuned ;)

Inside view.
The little banner on the inside is also from the Sketched Birthday set...if you don't own that one yet you may want to pick it up.  It has lots of great images AND greetings that work with the Bitty Banners Framelits.  It is a great set and is fun to colour too!
Be sure to stop by tomorrow.  I don't normally post on the weekend but now that The Technique Twist is going to an every-other-Saturday format you'll be getting a bonus weekend post from me every second week!  We have several new Design Team members to introduce as well as a brand new technique challenge.  As if that weren't enough there is also a blog hop and some great prizes!  See you tomorrow...in the meantime...TGIF!!!

New month, new sketch!

It's time for a new inspiration sketch.  I'll admit that last month I did a less-than-great-job of posting variations on the sketch...June is such a crazy  time for  us teachers!  But now I'm on holidays and there is absolutely no excuse for not staying on top of it.  So, here is the sketch for this month:

Inspiration sketch for July
...and here is my first sample:

Birthday card featuring the Sketched Birthday stamp set and Birthday Basics DSP.
Inside view with sentiments from Remembering Your Birthday.
I just love this Birithday Basics DSP!  It has such fun  patterns and trendy colours and is so much fun to work with.  I had a hard time choosing the patterns to use on this card...I love them all!  I was really glad to see some new birthday stamp sets in this year's catalogue.  Birthdays, by far, the occasion I get the most requests for at classes and workshops and  I was getting a little tired of the same old sets I had.  These new ones offer great images that are fun to colour and some new sentiments to boot.
Now in case you missed it, there is a great deal on DSP this month.  When you purchase three packages of Designer Series Paper from the new Annual Catalogue, you get to choose a fourth pack absolutely FREE!  If you're a DSP addict like me this sale will be right up your alley!  Call, click or email to place your order today!
