Sweet Symmetry Fun Fold

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are enjoying the summer so far. Here in southern Ontario we are under and air quality advisory due to smoke from forest fires up north. The sun was red this morning and there is a definite haze in the air. Here's hoping the fires are brought under control soon and that the rain we are supposed to get this afternoon will clear the air so we can all breathe easier!

This week I am all about the Sweet Symmetry suite from the Annual Catalogue. Now, I'll admit, that this wasn't one of the suites I immediately gravitated to, but oh my goodness, it sure has my attention now! The Designer Paper is absolutely GORGEOUS! Check out this fun fold I made that is all about the DSP...

fun fold card

The first thing that REALLY excited me about this modified gate-fold card is the fact that the pattern on the DSP lined up PERFECTLY when I created the card base. I mean seriously, how often does that happen?? The base uses a 5-1/4" x 12" piece of Designer Paper and shows both sides of the sheet, which makes it a great way to showcase this beautiful paper. I adhered the folded DSP base to a 4-1/4" x 5-1/2" piece of Just Jade card stock to give it strength and stability. Then I started stamped and fussy cutting the beautiful images in the In Symmetry stamp set. I pulled my colour palette from the DSP, using Calypso Coral, Bumblebee, Just Jade and Night of Navy. I love the bold images in this stamp set and that they are super-easy to fussy cut! I adhered the images to the front of my card in such a way that they overlap when the card is closed but also look cute when the card is open...

fun fold card

On the inside of the card I added a die-cut stitched rectangle so as not to cover up too much of the beautiful pattern on the DSP. I absolutely LOVE that this fold really allows both of the patterns on the paper to really take centre stage. Speaking of the DSP...did I mention that it is part of the sale this month? Stock up so you can make this fabulous fold in ALL of the patterns!

I'll be demonstrating this card and two others using this suite in today's Facebook Live at a special time of 7:00 pm ET. I hope you'll join me if you're able or catch the replay shortly afterwards on my YouTube channel.

Thanks so much for stopping by this week. Have a great one!

A Summer Fun Blog Hop with Creating Kindness

Happy Canada Day and happy summer! Today is not only a national holiday here in Canada, it is also the official start of my summer holidays! Wahoo!!!

To celebrate I am participating as a guest designer in the Creating Kindness (Around the World) Blog Hop! As a guest designer I got to choose this month's theme, so it was only fitting that I chose "Summer Fun" in honour of the end of a school year like no other and the start of a MUCH needed summer break.

One of my very favourite summer treats is ice cream and gelato. My fun fold card is inspired by the to-DIE-for gelato we had while on the Stampin' Up! incentive trip in Italy in 2019 (remember, back when we could travel safely?). There is nothing quite like enjoying yummy gelato on a hot summer night in Rome! Check out my project...

How fun is that?? This colour palette almost makes my mouth water! I used So Saffron, Mint Macaron and Fresh Freesia for the ice cream scoops, with Cinnamon Cider for the cone. The stamp set is called Sweet Ice Cream and has tons of fabulous images and sentiments in fun fonts. All of the links to the Stampin' Up!® products I used are at the bottom of this post.

Now, before you comment asking me the name of this fun fold...I actually have NO idea! If you have seen this fold before and know what it is called please comment below so I know what to call it! All I do know is that it is SUPER easy and can be varied in a ton of different ways. The best part is that when folded flat, this card fits in a standard envelope for mailing.

I used two patterns of Designer Paper from the Hand Penned pack (which is ON SALE all month long!) and some of the 2021-2023 In-Color pack. The sentiment label is die-cut using the Potted Succulents dies. I embellished using some white baker's twine and some clear epoxy droplets. Check out how they take on the colour of the stamped ice cream image...

On the inside of the card I added a Basic White panel on which I stamped another sentiment and some sprinkles. I love a fun fold card that still allows space to handwrite a message.

Check out my video tutorial for this card below. All of the measurements are in the video description...

Check out this summery fun-fold card featuring the Sweet Ice Cream bundle and Hand Penned DSP...

I couldn't resist pulling out my Ombre Specialty Paper to punch my ice cream scoops. I just love the icy quality the glimmer in the paper adds...almost good enough to eat! I used a colour combo of Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Pool Party and Crumb Cake. Talk about a yummy palette! This fun fold is one I just learned...so new that I have no idea what it is called. It is a simpler variation on a side-step card that requires just some simple scoring to create. I'll be demonstrating it in my Tuesday Live @ Five video today at 5 pm ET over on my Facebook business page...come and see for yourself just how easy this one is to make!
