Tropical Chic Bargello Shaker

Happy Monday! I hope you had a good weekend and were able to spend some quality time with the dads in your life yesterday. It has been a crazy-busy weekend here, as I held my BOGO sale on Saturday. Lots of happy shoppers came through taking home a great deal as they picked up BOTH retired items and new catalogue products. I'm going to be a very busy girl next week delivering all of these orders!
The hot, humid weather this weekend has me in a tropical frame-of-mind, so I thought I would share a fun shaker card I made using the new Tropical Chic Suite...

I've been playing with various DSP techniques for an upcoming class and decided to use the Bargello technique to create the background on this card. It is a really simple technique, but a little bit tedious. I began by cutting my 6" x 6" piece of Tropical Escape DSP into 1/4" strips. Then I adhered each strip to a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of Whisper White card stock, off-setting each strip slightly from the previous one. The end result is a wavy striped pattern instead of the straight one that is printed on the DSP. It is a fun technique to try with larger patterns as well. Stay tuned for more of this one!

To create the shaker, I die-cut a piece of Shaded Spruce card stock using the Tropical Thinlit dies. I adhered a piece of window sheet to the back of the die-cut square and then applied Foam Adhesive strips all the way around. I added some Iridescent Sequins and voila...a tropical shaker.

The sentiment is from the Tropical Chic stamp set and is stamped in Shaded Spruce ink. I used my Everyday Label punch to create the decorative end on the label. The leaves and flowers are stamped in Shaded Spruce and Powder Pink respetively and die-cut using the Tropical Thinlits. It doesn't show in the photo, but I added a bit of Wink of Stella to the flowers so they shimmer and shine. The only embellishment added to this card is a bit of Granny Apple Green ribbon to coordinate with the card base of the same shade.

On the inside I added a Whisper White card stock panel on which I stamped more leaves, a sentiment and a flower using Shaded Spruce, Lemon Lime Twist and Powder Pink inks.

I have to say, this suite is really starting to grow on me. I wasn't entirely convinced I needed it at first glance, but the more I use it, the more I realize its possibilities. It is the perfect summer stamp set!

Have a fantastic week!
