Glad to be Home

What a crazy couple of weeks I have had! Two weeks ago, my dad had "routine" knee replacement surgery that almost killed him. He suffered Atypical Malignant Hyperthermia which prevented him from waking after the surgery, sent his body temperature soaring and caused stroke-like symptoms. I rushed to North Bay (about 4 hours north of where I live) to be with my mom and was there until just this past weekend. Dad spent 7 days in ICU followed by several more days in the surgical ward before being cleared to head home. We had some very scary moments in that time, but I am thrilled to say he is home and doing great!

Just like him, I am very glad to be back home and to my regular routine. There are lots of pieces to pick up that got dropped while I was away...not the least of which is my Stampin' Up!® business! I had to cancel my Fall Fling Retreat weekend, which was very disappointing for all, but I was where I needed to be to support my family. I've also neglected this blog and my social media accounts and will be making up for lost time this week!
The last time I posted was a cute Halloween card that I created using the Making Every Day Bright stamp set. I had planned to feature it in my Tuesday Live @ Five video the day of dad's surgery. I never got to do that video, so I am picking up where I left off and featuring that project, as well as today's cutie, in tomorrow's live video on my Facebook page. Check out this adorable Christmas card...

Are those penguins not just the cutest?? I made this as an off-centre gatefold. Here is a look at the inside...

Both of the sentiments on this card are from the Snowflake Sentiments stamp set. I stamped both the sentiments and the penguins in Memento Tuxedo black ink and coloured the little toques using the Balmy Blue Stampin' Write maker. The card base is cut from Balmy Blue card stock, which, ironically is a great icy blue for winter-themed cards! Now, can you guess where the DSP on the left front panel came from? Here's a hint...it's in the Annual Catalogue. If you guessed Tranquil Textures, you're right! I knew way back in June when I first saw that pattern it would be perfect for winter cards! I used the Softly Falling TIEF for the panel on the front right panel.

Merry in Pink Extravaganza!

Now for a project I designed a while back but never shared with you. It is for my upcoming Winter Cheer Suite class in December.

I am loving the combination of Champagne foil with Powder Pink and white. It is such a pretty, wintry combination! I began by embossing the Whisper White background panel using the Winter Wonder TIEF. I layered that on a mat of Powder Pink card stock and then on a Thick Whisper White card stock base. The champagne foil element is all one piece, die-cut using the Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits.

The sentiment is from the Hearts Come Home stamp set and is stamped in Smokey Slate ink and then punched with the Pretty Label punch. I added a Powder Pink stamped snowflake behind the sentiment and then a little die-cut champagne foil swirl. I popped the sentiment label up with dimensionals. and added some pretty Powder Pink 3/8" Shimmer Ribbon.

On the inside I stamped another sentiment from the Hearts Come Home set in Smokey Slate ink and then some snowflakes from the Snowflake Sentiments set in Powder Pink.

Christmas Mittens for Sunday Stamps

Happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. We have glorious sunshine here and are spending the weekend at Great Wolf Lodge for an end-of-summer family getaway.

Today marks the start of a new sketch challenge over at Sunday Stamps. This sketch was designed by yours truly, so I really hope you'll play along with us! Here is the sketch:

I used LOTS of new products from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue on this project! I used the new Winter Wonder TIEF to create the semi-circle element in the sketch. It doesn't show in this photo, but I brushed clear Wink of Stella over the raised image so it sparkles like freshly fallen snow.

The DSP I used is from the Be Merry pack, which is in the Annual Catalogue. I think it is my favourite red-and-green-all-round-Christmas paper this year. I used the Ticket Tear punch along one edge of the Cherry Cobbler card stock layer behind the DSP for a little added interest. The mittens are from the new Smitten Mittens stamp set and are stamped in Cherry Cobbler ink. I used the coordinating Many Mittens framelits to die-cut them out. I added a little pine bough behind the mittens which I die-cut from Garden Green card stock using the new Christmas Staircase Thinlits.

The sentiment is from the Snowflake Sentiments stamp set and is stamped in Garden Green ink. I used the Pretty Label punch to punch it out and then layered it on an Everyday Label punch-out in Cherry Cobbler. I love the way those two punches work together! The only embellishment on this card is some twine from last year's Holiday Catalogue. I used both Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green because I couldn't decide which colour I liked better ;)

On the inside I added a Whisper White card stock panel on which I stamped the sentiment from the Smitten Mittens stamp set in Garden Green and another pair of mittens in Cherry Cobbler. Super-cute!
