Autumn Blessings for Sunday Stamps

Happy Sunday! I find myself relaxing at the lake on this glorious day; I hope that wherever you are you, too, are able to enjoy some downtime and just be still.

Today marks the start of a new colour challenge over at Sunday Stamps...

Although this colour pallette certainly speaks of fresh, summery citrus, my mind is already on fall and Autumn's splendour, so I chose to go with a somewhat fall-themed card:

I began with a 4" x 5-1/4" piece of watercolour paper and masked off a border using Washi tape. Then, using an aqua painter and my ink pads I created the watercolour wash. I used Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo and Calypso Coral. I love the ombre look that resulted. Once the panel had dried completely I stamped several images from the Paisleys and Posies stamp set in Versamark ink and then heat embossed in copper. When I remover the Washi tape mask I was left with a beautiful single-layer background.

The sentiment, also from the Paisleys and Posies stamp set, is also heat embossed in copper on Very Vanilla card stock. I used the Stitched Shapes framelits to die-cut the oval and then layered it on a scalloped oval cut from copper foil sheets using the Layering Ovals framelits. Then I went a little crazy with the embellishments ;) I added a bit of burlap ribbon, part of one of the new Metallic Snowflakes (the reverse side is Very Vanilla!) from the Holiday catty, a Touches of Nature wood element and a few iridescent sequins. The final touch was the little die-cut copper swirl from the new Swirly Snowflakes Thinlits (also from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue). The card is built on a Crumb Cake card stock base.

On the inside, I added  a Very Vanilla card stock panel on which I stamped several of the paisley images using the Rock and Roll technique with Daffodil Delight and Flirty Flamingo ink. I love the way it mimics the watercolour look from the front of the card.

These colours truly were a breeze to work with. Why not give our colour challenge a try yourself and then share your creation with us at Sunday Stamps? We'd love to see your work!

Watercolour Flourish

Happy Monday! It is a crisp, coolish morning here! A welcome relief from all the heat and humidity we've had this summer, but a little bit too much like fall for my liking. I'm not ready to admit that summer's almost over :(
Today I have a decidedly summery card for you. It is one I designed for my Flourishing Phrases class this evening...

I love the simplicity of this project. I began with a simple water colour wash using Peekaboo Peach, Flirty Flamingo and Watermelon Wonder inks. I actually did the wash on two different pieces of watercolour paper so that I would have one for my background and one from which to die-cut my flowers. Once they were dry, I die-cut two smaller flowers and one large flower using the Flouish Thinlits. I adhered the flowers to my second watercoloured piece using the Fine Tip Glue Pen and then matted it on a slightly larger piece of Watermelon Wonder card stock. I adhered that to a base of thick Whisper White card stock.

To add a bit of texture, I flicked the gold Wink of Stella brush all over the front of the card...I love the subtle shimmer that creates. The sentiment is from the Flourishing Phrases stamp set and is stamped in Watermelon Wonder ink. I added a bit of gold metallic thread and a little gold foil banner behind the sentiment to highlight it. The only embellishments on this card  are two little rhinestones in the centre of the die-cut flowers.

On the inside, I stamped the flower image from the Flouishing Phrases set, ink the stamp first with Peekaboo Peach ink, then daubing on Flirty Flamingo and Watermelon Wonder for an ombre effect.

The Flourishing Phraseset stamp set and Flourish Thinlits work beautifully together AND they're available in at a discount when you buy both together. Oh...and the work PERFECTLY with a brand-new bundle from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue. More on that later this week ;)

Have a marvelous Monday!

A Serene Colour Challenge

Happy Sunday! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I am just starting a week of R & R at my parents' place in northern Ontario. Think wilderness, a lake and peace and quiet. Ahhh...so beautiful. This is the one week each year when I get to do absolutely nothing. Just what I need before heading back into the craziness of the school year!
Today marks the start of a new colour challenge over at Sunday Stamps. Check out this soft, serene pallette...

Here is my project for the Design Team.

I pulled out the Helping Me Grow stamp set, which I've owned for several months but had not yet inked up! I thought these beautiful floral images were perfect for the ombre watercolour wash background. To achieve the ombre effect I used Pool Party, Marina Mist and Dapper Denim inks with my aqua painter on watercolour paper. I have to admit that my Marina Mist ink pad has been sadly neglected too. It's funny because that was once one of my go-to blues...how my tastes have changed! The floral image is heat embossed in white. I added some spatters of silver using the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set and (retired) silver metallic Encore ink. The watercolour panel is mounted directly on a Marina Mist card stock base.

The sentiment is stamped in Marina Mist ink on Very Vanilla card stock. I highlighted the sentiment with some Pool Party striped satin ribbon and a bit of lace trim. I added some Linen Thread and a Classy Designer Button to further highlight the sentiment. The final touch was a few clear sequins scattered across the card front...they add an subtle shimmer and texture, though they are hard to see in the photos.

I hope you'll give this soft and pretty colour pallette a try and share with us over at Sunday Stamps this week. Have a super Sunday!
