A Jar of (Fall) Flowers

Happy Tuesday...and happy first day of school! Yep...I am headed back for year #25 as a high school music teacher, and I have to say I've never been so anxious. Covid-19 means a whole new way of doing education, including teaching instrumental music without instruments! Don't ask...

Suffice to say, I spent the better part of the weekend in my studio trying to distract myself from the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the return to school. I turned to one of my favourite stress-relievers...colouring! I decided a little colour therapy was in order, so I made a last-minute change to my plans for this week and decided to feature the Jar of Flowers bundle. The beautiful florals in this stamp set are just what the doctor ordered. Check out this pretty fall card...

Sunflower card

One of the things I love most about this time of year is the abundance of gorgeous sunflowers. I used the sunflower image from the Jar of Flowers set, stamped in Early Espresso ink on some light woodgrain DSP from the In Good Taste DSP pack. I coloured the image using Stampin' Blends: Light Mango Melody, Dark Pumpkin Pie, Dark Old Olive, Dark Cajun Craze and Light Cinnamon Cider. The sentiment is from the Celebrate Sunflowers set and is stamped in Early Espresso. I used the Stitched Nested Labels dies to die-cut my woodgrain DSP. Here is a closer look...

The background DSP is from the Flowers for Every Season pack. I added a vertical element using Cinnamon Cider card stock, embossed with the Tasteful Textile embossing folder. I love the subtle texture of that folder! I embellished a little using a couple of leaves from the In Good Taste Elements and some Bumblebee Gingham ribbon.

On the inside I kept it super simple, adding a panel of Whisper White card stock and a scrap strip of the same DSP I used on the front. (*Reminder...NEVER throw out those scraps...they are the perfect accent for the inside of your cards!)

I'll be demonstrating this card and two others (with LOTS of colouring) in today's Tuesday Live @ Five video at 5 pm ET over on my Facebook page. If you miss me, you can catch the replay shortly afterwards on my YouTube channel.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a super week!

Tags in Bloom

Happy Monday! I honestly don't know where the weekend went! The loss of that hour when we "sprang forward" on Saturday night has me completely out of sorts. I feel like I lost 12 hours, rather than just one!
I did manage to find some time to play with some more new Sale-a-bration Second Release goodies...the Tags in Bloom stamp set and So Very Vellum.

Here is the stamp set...

...and here is that gorgeous So Very Vellum:

Here is a pretty spring card I made, inspired by my dear friend Patty Bennet,  using these new products...

The Tags in Bloom stamp set coordinates with both the Label Me Fancy and Label Me Lovely punches from the January-June Mini Catalogue. I began by cutting a piece of vellum for my background panel. I used the Stitched So Sweetly dies to cut a Whisper White scalloped rectangle and then stamped that gorgeous floral label image in Basic Gray. I used Pool Party, light Bermuda Bay  and Soft Seafoam Stampin' Blends to colour the flowers.

The sentiment is stamped in Bermuda Bay ink inside another stamped label in Basic Gray. I used the Label my Lovely punch to pop out the stamped label and then used dimensionals to pop the label up.. This allowed me to run my ribbon behind the popped up label. I added a couple of extra fussy-cut flowers to adorn the bottom corner of my label.

On the inside of the card I added another label and sentiment from the Tags in Bloom stamp set in Basic Gary and Bermuda Bay respectively.

Here's my video in which I demonstrate this card and two others using the Tags in Bloom stamp set...

Thanks for stopping by today...have a super week!

Hoot, Hoot, Hooray!

It's Monday...again! They just keep coming around, don't they? I just have three more Mondays till I am back to school...not quite ready for that yet!
This week I am featuring a new stamp set that is easily missed because it isn't in the Annual Catalogue. Did you know Stampin' Up! also has a beginner brochure designed with newer stampers in mind? It's called Experience Creativity and, although it is targeted at beginners, there are some FANTASTIC products in there that are perfect for any level of crafter. This week's featured product is a adorable stamp set called Hoot, Hoot, Hooray...

Hoot, Hoot Hooray stamp set (Item #149352)
Now, aren't those images absolutely the cutest?? I had such fun designing projects with this set! So much so, that not only am I featuring in this week's Tuesday Live @ Five video, but also in my monthly Girls' Night Out Class at the end of the month. Here are the projects we'll be making on August 29th...

If you're local to Cambridge, I hope you'll join us!

Here is today's featured project and one I will be demonstrating in this week's Live @ Five video...

Isn't that little owl just the sweetest?? I absolutely adore him! I used Smokey Slate Stampin' Blends to colour his body, Light So Saffron for his eyes and Dark Daffodil Delight for his beak. The stars are coloured using shades in the DSP: Dark Old Olive, Dark Daffodil Delight and Dark Calypso Coral. One thing I should mention is that with ALL of the stamps in this set, I performed minor surgery and separated the sentiments from the images, making them all more versatile. I do this with just about every stamp I buy that includes and image and sentiment on the same stamp. It's super-easy to do with a good pair of scissors and, if you decide you want to use both the image and sentiment together, it is easy to mount them together on one block again.

Both patterns of DSP I used are from the Bird Ballad DSP pack. How perfect are those little birdie footprints on the yellow background panel?? The label for the image is die-cut using the Stitched Nested Labels dies...I am utterly addicted to those!

I added a little silver Mini Library Clip and a bit of white baker's twine by way of embellishment.

On the inside I stamped some more stars, colouring them with my Stampin' Blends as I did on the front.

This little owl is just too cute and as I made this card my mind was racing with ideas for other projects using him. Be sure to stop by on Thursday for our monthly Stamping Symphony blog hop when I'll be showcasing another card I made using the owl image. In the meantime, I hope you'll tune in tomorrow on my Facebook page for my weekly episode of stamping TV. I'll be Live @ Five pm ET, but if you miss me you can catch the replay on my YouTube channel later in the week or on the Video Tutorials tab above.

Thanks for stopping by...I hope you have a fantastic week!
