A Sunflower Celebration

Happy Tuesday! I hope you are enjoying these fleeting summer days. They certainly are getting noticeably shorter...fall is definitely on the horizon.

One of the best things about this time of year is sunflowers! I absolutely LOVE the gorgeous colours of these happy blooms. The Celebrate Sunflowers bundle perfectly captures the beauty of this season, so I am featuring it all week long. Check out this simple card I made...

Isn't that sunflower image just stunning?? The detail is so amazing that it really deserves all of the attention on this project. I created my background by sponging and blending three late-summer shades of ink: Bumblebee, Pumpkin Pie and Cinnamon Cider. I used a die-cut Whisper White rectangle as my foundation and sponge daubers to apply the ink. I absolutely LOVE playing with colour like this!

I stamped the sunflower in Early Espresso ink, which brings out the amazing detail in the image and contrasts beautifully against the blended background. I added a light spatter of Champagne Mist Shimmer paint with a Water Painter. I matted the die-cut rectangle on Early Espresso card stock and then adhered it to a Very Vanilla card stock matte, embossed with the Pinewood Planks embossing folder. The sentiment is stamped in Early Espresso and popped up with dimensionals. The only embellishment is a hint of Bumblebee Gingham ribbon peeking out from behind the focal image.

On the inside of the card I simply stamped another beautiful sunflower in Early Espresso ink. I so love the simplicity of this look!

I'll be demonstrating the this card in today's Live @ Five video over on my Facebook page. There's nothing like seeing ink blending done live to make you fall in love with the technique! If you are unable to join me live you can catch the replay over on my YouTube channel shortly afterwards.

Thanks so much for stopping by...have a great week!

Press On - A Cup of Thanks

Happy Tuesday! I hope your week is off to a good start. Today is a simply STUNNING day, here in Southern Ontario. Bright sunshine, coolish temps...such a welcome break from the oppressive heat and humidity we've had this summer!

Today I am picking up where I left off on Saturday with the Press On stamp set from the August - December Mini Catalogue and a fun gift card holder idea for the coffee lover in your life. Check it out...

In designing this project, I started with a basic Joy-Fold Card and turned it to a portrait orientation. Instead of cutting my 4-1/14" x 11" card base down, I added an extra score line at the 8-1/2" mark to create a pocket to hold a gift card. So simple! Once I had the foundation for my gift card holder, I had some fun with the Plaid Tidings DSP...how I LOVE that paper pack! There truly is a plaid for every occasion in there! Drawing from the colours in the plaid pattern I chose, I used a palette of Seaside Spray, Melon Mambo and Whisper White. I stamped the cup, coloured it with Seaside Spray Blends and then fussy-cut it out. I paper-pieced a plaid wrapper and added some Misty Moonlight baker's twine and a sweet little heart from the Playful Pets Trinkets.

To add a little interest to my gift card pocket, I used the new Celebration Labels dies to create a decorative edge, adhering the DSP before die-cutting, so I got a nice, clean finish. I added a Stitched Rectangle label with a sentiment and a fussy cut and coloured coffee cup.
On the inside panel, I stamped some more coffee cups and coloured the heart with my Light Melon Mambo Blends.

I'll be demonstrating this project, along with two others using the Press On stamp set in today's Tuesday Live @ Five video over on my Facebook page. If you aren't on Facebook or miss the live broadcast, you can catch the replay over on my YouTube Channel shortly afterwards.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. Have a fantastic week!

Press On and a Blog Hop

Happy weekend! Are you surprised to see me on a Saturday? I'm posting twice this week because today marks our monthly Stamping Symphony Blog Hop!

This month we are celebrating all of the amazing new goodies from the August December Mini Catalogue...and there is SO much to love! As a coffee lover, one of the stamp sets at the top of my list was the Press On set...

Check out this fun project I made with it...

Honestly, is there anything better than pink plaid and coffee?? I am SO in love with the Plaid Tidings Designer Paper...there truly is a plaid for EVERY season in that pack! Here I've used this fun Melon Mambo/Bumblebee combo for a card that I intend to give myself on the first day of school this September!
I started by stamping the background Bumblebee card stock panel in ink of the same shade using my Stamparatus and the "hinge-step" technique. (I'll be demonstrating it in Next Tuesday's Live @ Five video...don't miss it!) I added a 1-1/2" wide strip of that gorgeous plaid DSP as well as some Bumblebee In-Color Ribbon before adhering it to my Melon Mambo card stock base.

The focal images is stamped in black ink on Whisper White card stock and fussy-cut out. I paper-pieced a belly band on my coffee cup using the same plaid DSP and added a wee Bumblebee heart, punching with the Dog Builder punch (can you see the hint of shimmer from the Wink of Stella I applied?) The circles behind the coffee cup are die-cut using the Layering Circle dies. I embossed the Bumblebee one using the new Wrapped in Texture embossing folders. The sentiment is stamped in black ink on a 3/4" wide strip of Whisper White card stock, which I punched on one end using the Banners Pick a Punch.

On the inside I added a Whisper White card stock panel on which I stamped some more coffee cups in Bumblebee ink, another sentiment from the Press On set in black and a wee heart in Melon Mambo.

I will be featuring this fun stamp set all week long next week. Be sure to check back in on Tuesday for another fun project and then catch my live videos on Tuesday at 5 pm ET and Friday at 7:30 pm ET for even more coffee-loving fun!

Thanks so much for stopping by today...now its time to hop on over to Sandy's blog to see what amazingness she has inked up!
