Queen Bee Slimline and Last Chance

Happy Good Friday! I'm posting today because it is the 15th of the month and time for another Stamping Symphony blog hop. Our theme this month is saying goodbye to favourite retiring items. Just another couple of weeks before the end of the 2021/22 Annual Catalogue and the final farewell to some much-loved items in my studio. This card uses several retiring products I am most definitely going to miss!

How cute is that little Queen Bee made using the Ladybug Builder punch?? I couldn't resist giving her a necklace of bling fit for the queen she is! I used (of course!) Bumblebee card stock to build my bee and also for the background panel on my slimline card. I stamped several of the flower images from the Hello Ladybug stamp set tone-on-tone in Bumblebee ink. I am SO going to miss this beautiful golden yellow when it retires in a couple of weeks!

Another retiring item that will be sorely missed is the Daisy punch. I can't tell you how often I reach for that punch when I need quick flowers for a project! It is one that will live in my studio for years to come! Thankfully the Medium Daisy Punch is sticking around! Speaking of the daisies...did you catch the sneak peek of one of the new In-Colors?? I used the new Parakeet Party to create the leaves on both the large and smaller daisies. The large leaf is the image from the Hello Lady Bug set and is stamped in Parakeet Party ink on card stock of the same shade. Then I fussy cut them out to adhere to my card. The leaves on the smaller daisies are also stamped using the large leaf image, but, because I wanted a smaller scale leaf, I used the Strawberry Builder punch to punch the leaf shape out of the stamped card stock. The effect is a leaf that is the same shape as the large leaves, but in better scale with the smaller daisies. The Strawberry Builder punch is another one that will live in my studio for a very long time. The variety of shapes in that punch have SO many possibilities!

When it came time to embellish the sentiment banner, I really wanted something that would work with my black and yellow colour scheme. I grabbed some Playful Pets baker's twine, my dark Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends and went to town turning the black and white twine to black and yellow. It is the perfect finishing touch for this whimsical card!

I demonstrated this card in this week's Live @ Five video over on my Facebook Business Page. You can see the replay on my YouTube channel below. Check out the video description for all of the measurement for this adorable slimline card!

Is he not the sweetest?? I literally giggled out loud as I was making him. My hubby had to come and see what shenanigans I was up to and agreed this little guy is definitely giggle-worthy. Here are the pieces I used to put him together. There is a link to my YouTube video that shows exactly how he comes together at the bottom of this post.

As for the rest of the card, I used a Granny Apple Green card base and a background of Basic White card stock, which I die-cut using the spatter die from the Brilliant Wings dies. I then layered it on a mat of Brass Foil, which gives the impression of a shower of gold coins raining down on my lucky leprechaun. The DSP I used is from the Brights 6"x 6" stack. I added a strip of Basic Black card stock and threaded it through a ribbon slide to mimic the buckle on the leprechaun's hat. The sentiment and shamrock stamp are both from the Oval Occasions bundle. I stamped them on a die-cut oval, cut using the Stitched Shapes dies.

A Special Birthday Card

Well, I promised this card on Tuesday and here it is Thursday. I'm a little late, but I hope you'll forgive me. The start of the school year is always a wee bit crazy!

My nephew celebrated his 5th birthday this week and, since he is a HUGE Octonauts fan, I thought I'd make him a special card...

It's a punch art/shaker/easel card. I may have gone a wee bit overboard! To create the little characters I pretty much followed Kelly Kent's fantastic tutorial which you can find HERE. There were a few items that are retired that I no longer own, so I had to improvise a little. One example is Capt. Barnacle's hat. For it, I used one of the label dies in the Apothecary Accents framelits (also retired, but one I've held onto) and then punched it with the 1-1/4" circle die. Here's a close up:

...and Peso.

Once I had created my characters I thought it might be fun if they were peeking out the portholes in the Octopod, which is their orange home base under the sea. I used Pumpkin Pie for the Octopod background and then embossed it using the Decorative Dots TIEF (also retired). I cut the portholes using the Layering Circles framelits and then cut frames from Bermuda Bay card stock. The rivets around the portholes are punched from Basic Gray card stock using the smallest circle in the Owl Builder punch. Then I decided it needed to be a shaker card, so I added a Pacific Point frame and some acetate. To fill the shaker I added a couple of fish from the Jar of Love stamp set, die-cut with the Everyday Jars framelits.  I added some sequins reminiscent of bubbles.  Of course, then I decided it needed to be an EASEL card, so...

I adhered the shaker card front to a Pacific Point base to create and easel. On the inside I added a Whisper White panel on which I stamped the sentiment from the Confetti Celebration stamp set and a few more fish in Bermuda Bay, Pumpkin Pie and So Saffron.

To say my nephew liked his card is an understatement...he seems to think it's an iPad and has carried it everywhere he goes since receiving it on Sunday. Poor kid is going to be sadly disappointed to discover that it most definitely is NOT an iPad, but at least for a few days I was a hero :)

Have a great day!
