Happy Birthday, Mom!

Today is my mom's 70th birthday!  I can't believe she's that old...'cuz if she's 70 I must be....well, never mind!  Back to mom...she is as active and vibrant as she ever was and still does all of the things she loves.  Her greatest passion is gardening, and to honour that I decided to give her a flower garden on her birthday card.  Check this out:

This card certainly was a labour of love!  It took my upwards of two hours to make, but I am thrilled with the result and I think my mom will be too.  I started by stamping the leaves and various floral images on Whisper White card stock and then coloured them using my aquapainter.  I then die cut the inmages using my new Secret Garden Framelits...so much quicker than fussy cutting them all!!  I did do a bit of fussy cutting so that I could layer some of the flowers to give them dimension.  In case you are wondering, here are the colours I used:  Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo, Summer Starfruit, Tangerine Tango, Garden Green, Old Olive and Pear Pizzazz (retired).  The sentiment panel on the front uses the Memorable Moments set and is heat embossed in silver and stamped in Rich Razzleberry.  The DSP is from the Twitterpated pack.  The card base uses my very last piece of Pear Pizzazz card stock...sure hope that colour comes back some day!  I hope my mom likes this card...I sure do!

Birthday Card for a Little Man

Last week my brother's little guy celebrated his first birthday.  He did it in grand style with all of his aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents present and even had two great-uncles and aunts there as well.  It was a wonderful day and in honour of the big event I created this card:

 I just love this image from last year's catalogue!  I've actually had this stamp for almost two years and this was the first time I've used it!!  It is the perfect image for a special brithday card.  I stamped it on watercolour paper using Staz-on ink and then coloured it using my Watercolour Crayons...love those things!  The DSP is from the Nursery Nest pack, which is also from last year's catty.  Lots of retired product here, but I used lots of NEW tools!  The Labels Collection Framelits, Edgelits and Finishing Touches TIEF are all new to this year's catalogue and add texture and interest to the design.

And now, here's a shot of the birthday boy enjoying his cake!  As you can see, he takes his food VERY seriously!

Whew!

What a busy weekend this has been!  I don't know how it could possibly be Sunday evening already, but here we are on the brink of yet another work week!  The good news is that I only have three more until school is done for the year...yay summer!!  I am SOOO ready for a break from disrespectful, unmotivated teenagers!!  I get to spend all summer home with my boy...so looking forward to it! 
As you may recall, yesterday I took part in a demo-only event here in Cambridge. I did a demo-theatre bit featuring the Faux Patina technique, which everyone loved.  I am amazed that more people aren't' familiar with that fabulous technique!  We also had opportunity to make several great projects and today I want to show you one I especially loved.  It was designed by Denise Donald...have a look:

Isn't that fun??  I really love this faux quilting technique...so much so that I used it on another project I created today that you'll see later this week.  I also really like this fold...it is so unusual and a great change from standard-sized cards.  In case you're wondering, the DSP is from the Patio Party pack and the sentiment is from the new Memorable Moments set.  I also added a bit of the gorgeous stitched satin ribbon in Midnight Muse...so rich-looking and easy to work with!  Thanks for sharing this fabulous card with us Denise!!
