Twisted Starburst Love

It's Saturday and I'm posting, which means it is time for a new challenge from The Technique Twist!  This time we are using the Starburst Technique...one of my favs!  Check out my project:

So, most often this technique is used to create cool backgrounds, but I decided it too fabulous to hide in the back, so I made it my focal point!

I am so happy with the way this turned out...one of the few times the end result is BETTER than what I pictured in my head!

Here is how I created my starburst heart:

• I started with a card stock heart, cut using the largest non-scalloped heart from the Hearts collection Framelits.  It doesn't matter what colour card stock you use because it gets completely covered anyway.
• I cut a bunch of strips of Real Red card stock that were 4" long and 3/4" wide.  I cut each strip on the diagonal from corner to corner, leaving me with long, pointy triangles.
• I cut a bunch of Silver Glimmer paper strips that were 4" long and 1/2" wide and cut each of those strips on the diagonal as I did above.
• I applied a piece of a Multipurpose Adhesive sheet to the card stock heart, effectively turning it into a giant sticker.
• I placed the triangles on the sticky heart, alternating red and silver, trying to keep the points of the triangle centred (didn't do a very good job of that, but I actually like that its a bit off-centre!)  The triangles will extend way off the edges of the heart...let them!
• Once all of the triangles were placed, I flipped the heart over and trimmed around it with my paper snips, removing all of the overhanging strips.
• I stamped and die cut the word bubble and adhered it using dimensionals.
• The card base is embossed using the Adorning Accents TIEF and is stamped with one of the hearts from the Hearts A-flutter set using Silver Metallic Encore Ink.

For the inside of the card I stamped the heart again using Real Red ink.  The label is from the Tags 4 You stamp set (still available for order) and punched it using the Bracket Label punch.

Another Twist on Inlaid Embossing

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a relaxing weekend.  Today I have another project I created for this week's Inlaid Embossing challenge over at The Technique Twist.  Check it out:

Holiday card featuring the Starburst and inlaid Embossing techniques with sentiment from the Christmas Messages stamp set (131793)

Isn't that fun??  I used DSP from the Winter Frost DSP stack (132183) and some Silver Foil Sheets (132178) for my starburst pattern.  I love the way the embossing looks in the silver!

 

The sentiment is from the Christmas Messages stamp set and is matted with a silver Glimmer Paper snowflake cut with the Festive Flurry Framelits (132193) .

Ombre Starburst

Yesterday I showed you one of the cards we did at my techniques class this month...today I have another take on the Starburst Technique.  Inspired by a design on Pinterest, this one is very much out of my comfort zone...

Very CAS and graphic, no?  Not my usual style, but it was fun to try something different.  To get the ombre effect I used the following colours, from lightest to darkest:  Soft Sky, Pool Party, Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay and Island Indigo.  To create  the starburst I cut my strips 1-3/4" wide and 5-1/2" long and then cut each strip diagonally from corner to corner.  I left tiny white borders showing between each strip, partly because I liked the look of it and partly to make  the five strips fit properly (sometimes necessity really IS the mother of invention!).  I used Island Indigo Chevron Ribbon and Bermuda Bay Candy Dots to embellish this otherwise very plain design.  The sentiment is stamped in Basic Gray and comes from the One in a Million stamp set.  The gals at my class liked this card and I have to say so do I.  Sometimes stepping out of your usual style is fun and inspires different, but fabulous things!  Give it a try...I dare you!!

Starburst Sunshine

Can you believe it's Thursday already??  One week from today Convention starts...woohoo!!  Can't wait!!  Before I leave I have lots to do...swaps to finish, laundry and packing and getting my son ready for his week at grandma's and still a couple more classes to finish up.  My techniques class is tonight and we are learning how to do a starburst background.  This is one of the cards  we'll be making:

Any-Occasion card featuring the Sunshine Single Stamp and This and That Epic Day DSP
